Innovation in sportschairs
1,5 year ago was the first time I worked together with Coen Vuijck (Motionmatters). The goal was to adapt my chair in a way that would suit my way of playing and abilities. To create an ideal sitting position, and to be able to create more speed when pushing and lose less energy when hitting the ball. That year was a Paralympic year, so we couldn't make any big changes as there was not enough time to adapt to this.
This year we started with the next step in this process, to create the 'perfect chair' for me. Some people joined us in this adventure. My sponsor Invacare, who makes sure I can use the best chairs in sports and every day life. Frank Jol, who builds ortheses and has a lot of expertise in athletics. And Tobias, who knows everything about composites. A very enthusiastic team, which is gonna make sure I will have the perfect chair and it will be a light but strong chair.
This week we made a mould of my bottom. They wrapped plaster around me, put me in my sports chair (in the position I'm sitting at the moment) and waited until it was dry and hard. This mould is gonna be used to create a bucket in which I'm going to sit. They will place this bucket on a wheelchair frame, so I can play in that. It's totally designed on my measurements, so I can't gain any wait or I won't fit in it anymore!
The also took the measurements for the frame and draw the frame for the wheelchair company to build it. You can view a short movie of this day on the Facebook page 'Jiske Griffioen rolstoeltennis'. It was a fun day and hopefully the chair will be an improvement for my game. If there are new developments I will keep you guys updated!
