Australian Open day 1

jiske griffioen

I arrived in Australia the 6th of january. After two weeks, two tournaments to prepare, it is finally time for..... the first Grand Slam of the year. The Australian Open!!!

On monday the 20th of january, we have the draw party. I will play Lucy Shuker in the quarterfinal. Together with Marjolein Buis, we will play Sharon Warlaven and Lucy Shuker in doubles.

On the 22nd of january, I play my first singles match. The 4th match after 11.00 my match is scheduled. It is pretty windy, so the conditions are quiet difficult to play. But the wind doesn't affect my game too much. I start well, while my opponent struggles with her serve. On 5-1 I have my first setpoint, but I need 3 more setpoints to take the first set 6-1.

In the 2nd set I take a lead immediately. On 5-1, Lucy breaks my serve with a couple of return winners. But I have my first matchpoints a game later, and take the second set 6-2.

Tomorrow I will play Yui Kamiji in the semifinal. She beat Marjolein Buis 6-1 6-4 in the quarterfinal. And Marjolein and I will play the semifinal of doubles as well.
