NEC Singles Masters 2014

The NEC Singles Masters is a very special tournament. Only the best 8 female players qualify, and it's the final big tournament of the year. One last battle to go!!! This year it's the 1st time we go back to a special place. The Olympic Parc in London is the location of this event. Great to be back here! Two years ago I won a bronze medal and silver medal during the Paralympic Games, so it's great to go back at this place, filled with good memories.

On tuesday we have the draw for this event at the Orbitt, Olympic Parc. 70 metres high, we have a beautiful view over London and the Olympic Parc. I will play against Marjolein Buis, Aniek van Koot and KG Montjane in poule B.

Wednesday I play my 1st round robin match against Marjolein Buis. With a 6-3 6-1 win, a good start of the week. The next day I play Aniek van Koot, who also won her first round robin match. I win this match with the same score, 6-3 6-1. After two straight set wins, I'm certain of a place in the semifinal. The last round robin match I play KG Montjane. This match I struggle a bit, but eventually win 6-3 7-5.

Saturday is semifinal day. I play Yui Kamiji, who I lost the final to last year in 3 sets. I start nervous and see my opponent take a 1-4 lead. From that point I'm able to step it up. Dominating the rest of the match, I take it 6-4 6-1. Happy with this result and a good way to reach the final.

Sunday I play Aniek van Koot again. I have a good start, taking the 1st set 6-3. In the 2nd set we level at 4-4, after my level drops. I loose the 2nd set 4-6 and can't turn this around. The 3rd set goes to Aniek van Koot 1-6. Runner up it is, and thats a dissapointing end to a very good week.

The event was great! It was a pleasure to play here with quite a lot of spectators to watch!!! A big thanks to the organisation. I'm looking forward to come back next year. This is the end of 2014 for me. So one week off and then I will start my preparation for the tour down under, which starts early 2015.
