2nd Super Series title

jiske griffioen

The 24th of august I left the country again. I had to fly to America to play two tournaments. I was very lucky cause Delta offered me an upgrade to Elite business class!!! This is great, cause being able to adjust your chair like a bed, means arriving in St. Louis well rested.

It was a very hot week in St. Louis. High temperatures and high humidity, so tough conditions to play tennis. It's the last Super Series event in St. Louis. After beating Elizabeth Williams and KG Montjane, I faced world no. 1 Yui Kamiji in the semifinal. The 1st was a thriller. I had to survive 7 setpoints, but eventually took the 1st set 7-6(6). The 2nd set it seemed like the loss of the 1st set broke Kamiji's resilience, and I won the 2nd set 6-2.

In the final I played Sabine Ellerbrock. It's the 3rd time we meet this year. And after beating her in Sydney and Iizuka (Japan), I beat her again in St. Louis. I won the final 6-1 6-3 and my 2nd Super Series title in 2014.

And playing doubles with Aniek van Koot, resulted in another doubles title. We beat Ellerbrock/Shuker in the semifinal (6-2 6-2) and Whiley/Montjane in the final (7-6 6-2). So a great week and a good preparation for the last Grand Slam of the year.
