The day after I won my 2nd Super Series title of 2014, I fly to New York. It's time for the last Grand Slam of the year.
I have a difficult draw. I play Sabine Ellerbrock 1st round. So I have to be ready on the 1st day! It's hot and humid in New York, but it was worse in St. Louis. But still though conditions to play. On thursday I play my 1st match. The win last week gave me confidence, and I play well. I'm able to put pressure on Sabine the whole match. I win 6-1 6-1 and into the semifinal!
In the semifinal I meet Yui Kamiji, world no. 1 again (just like last weeks semifinal). I start well and take the 1st set 6-3. But the match turns around in the 2nd set. I can't make the same pressure as in the 1st and make some more mistakes as well. I loose the 2nd set 6-2. When I'm down 5-1 in the 3rd, I fight back to 5-3. But loosing the next game means the end of the last Grand Slam for me.
Not totally the end, cause I still have to play the doubles semifinal on friday. Aniek and I play Buis/Walraven in the semifinal. We win the semifinal 6-1 6-3, earning a spot in the final against Kamiji/Whiley (who have a walk over in the semifinal).
On saturday we play the final. We loose the 1st 6-4, being up 4-2. We fight back in the 2nd set and take it 6-3. The 3rd set is close, but at 4-3 15-0 down...... It starts raining! After an hour we can start again, but the break is not in our advantage. We loose the 3rd set 6-3. The US Open was good, always a great experience to play at this amazing Grand Slam. It's time to fly home and get back to training!!
