It’s the end of the year. It has been a great year for me, with a lot of highlights. And because of my performances in 2015, I have been nominated for three awards. On monday the 14th of decemberI have two gala events that I have to attend.
First I visit the ‘Telesport Tennissers van het jaar gala’ at the beautiful College Hotel in Amsterdam. I am nominated for the wheelchair tennis player of the year award, ‘the Esther Vergeer award’, together with my doubles partner Aniek van Koot and rising star Diede de Groot. Esther Vergeer herself will present the award and when she opens the golden envelope, she calls out my name. What an honour to receive this award, out of the hands of a true wheelchair tennis legend.
Unfortunately I have to leave the dinner, missing out on the chocolate dessert ;-) But at the same night I’m nominated for the ‘Sports woman of Amsterdam’ award as well. This event takes place in ‘de Sieraad’ in Amsterdam, an amazing location as well. I’m nominated together with hockey player Ellen Hoog (who I handed over the award to last year) and ‘blade babe’ Marlou van Rhijn. Kirsten van der Kolk (Olympic gold medallist and also one of my teachers at the Johan Cruijff University) hands out this award. She opens the envelop and calls Marlou van Rhijn to receive the trophy. She had a great season with gold medals on the 100m and 200m sprint at the world championships in Doha. So congrats to her!! After catching up with some other athletes it’s time to head home, as tomorrow we have another gala event to come.
