USTA Wheelchair Tennis Championships

As I write this blog, I'm in the plane to New York. The able bodied players started last week at Flushing Maedows. The US Open, the last Grandslam of the year. In St. Louis the USTA Wheelchairtennis Championships, started at the same time. Our last preparation for the US Open. As every year, it was hot on court! I played a lot of matches so definitely a good warmup event for the US Open.

In singles I reached the semifinal by beating Francesca Mardones 6-0 6-0 and Marjolein Buis in the quarterfinal 6-1 7-5. In the semifinal I played Yui Kamiji, no. 3 of the world. I had a bad start of the match, losing the 1st set 6-2. After that I was able to play a bit better and fought as hard as I good. I took the 2nd set 6-4. The 3rd set was a close one, but eventually I lost 4-6. Some positives and some negatives in this match, but for sure a good preparation for next week.

In doubles Aniek van Koot and I made it to the final. We played Jordanne Whiley and Yui Kamiji. The first set we played well, winning it 6-2. After that set our level dropped. We lost the 2nd set 6-2. The 3rd set was a battle, but eventually we fell short.
