It's always great to travel to New York. For one week Manhattan is our home. And we play our matches at Flushing Maedows. It's big, it's busy and it's buzzing! It's the US Open. In New York everybody is talking about Serena Williams, cause she can win all slams in one year. But also I have that chance.... Together with Aniek van Koot we did it in doubles in 2013. But at the US Open I never made it passed the semifinal in single. So let's see how we go this year....

In the quarterfinal I play against Sabine Ellerbrock. It's our fourth meeting this year. In the morning it's raining, so we have to wait a little bit before we can start. I start well and win the first set 6-1. In the second set I take a 3-1 lead, but Sabine fights back to 3-3. The three games after I make some more pressure and I take the second set 6-3. Later that day the rest of the matches get suspended because of rain, so my opponent in the semifinal is still unknown.

Aniek and I play our semifinal doubles the day after. We play against Lucy Shuker and Kaitlyn Verfuerth. The beginning of the match is close. We take the first set 6-3. The second set we play better, less mistakes and win it 6-0.

In the semifinal I play Yui Kamiji. I start the match well taking a 5-2 lead. After that it's more like a rollercoaster. I lose the first set 7-5 and face 0-2 down in the second. Then I win the 2nd set 6-3 taking a lead in the 3rd set. In the blink of an eye I face 2-5 down in the final set. I fight and win the next two games. But then Yui takes the next game and the set 6-4. Very dissapointing, but couldn't make it to the final at the US Open.

The same day Aniek and I have to play the doubles final against Marjolein Buis and Sabine Ellerbrock. Very surprising as they took out the number 1 seeds Whiley/Kamiji. The first set is close and at 4-4 40-40 it starts..... to rain. They dry the courts, but half an hour later it starts pooring rain again. The matches get suspended and we have to finish on the sunday.

Sunday afternoon, the sun is out and we take the first set in a tiebreak. And after that we take a 0-2 lead, advantage Griffioen/van Koot when..... it starts to rain again. It takes a while before we are back on court. We lose the first game after the break, but take the second set 6-1. Happy with our second grand slam title in doubles this year!!

So the US Open comes to an end. Some good things, some bad things. Some days you win, some days your learn! Back to Europe on monday and time to prepare for an indoor tournament in France.
