Japan Open

jiske griffioen

On the 14th of may I fly to Fukuoka. I’m going to play the Japan Open in Iizuka city and after that I represent the Netherlands in the World Team Cup in Tokio. Last year I didn’t compete at the Japan Open. And Tokio is a city I always wanted to visit, so I’m excited to go.

After having a bye in the firs round, I playManami Tanaka in the 2nd round. A young Japanese player. I win the match 6-0 6-0, but at times Tanaka has some good shots.

In the quarterfinal I play Diede de Groot. In the first games she hits a lot of winners, but I find a way to battle into the first set. I take the first set 6-3. After that, the resistance of Diede is a bit broken and win the 2nd set 6-1.

In the semifinal I play against Sabine Ellerbrock. Difficult conditions as it’s very windy on court. I handle the conditions a bit better and win the match 6-2 6-2

In the final I play Yui Kamiji. I play a good first set and take it 6-3. In the 2nd set my level drops and I lose this one 6-1. The 3rd set is better, but Yui takes it 6-3. A bit disappointed after a good week on court, to lose the final.

In doubles Aniek van Koot and I won the semi final against Buis/de Groot. The first time we ever played against this team. But we have to play the final the same day (cause our semi final was cancelled because of rain the day before) and in the final we lose against Kamiji/Whiley.
